Baptism
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matt 28:19-20 (ESV)

The following is an excerpt from our Biblical Insights (Supplement Chapter) on Baptism:

>>> IN A NUTSHELL: Baptism is the Christian public practice of  professing faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ. This is in direct obedience to the explicit mandate of the Lord found in Matthew 28:19-20 It is an outward display of commitment of the inner commitment made of a changed heart and repentance, and a desire to follow Christ and His Lordship. Baptism in itself is not what saves you, but the true heart’s desire to live a changed life through Christ. It is possible for a person to be baptized but really never know Christ in their hearts. There are many people who have been baptized one day, but continue living their lives as always and never coming to that “truly changed heart and repentance” that God’s Word calls for. Sadly, a person can go through the motions without it ever really affecting them. God’s Word says that “if you believe in your heart, and profess with your mouth” you can be saved. However if that profession is never really rooted in your heart (and is allowed to change your heart) then your “display” can be superficial, and you will miss the very essence of what it means to be baptized and have Jesus as your Lord and Savoir, and to truly have a personal relationship with God through Christ....

~ About the Growing With God series:

This series is based on John 15 and Matthew 13. God is the vinedresser, and we are the vines that He has planted. However if we do not stay “rooted in Him” then we will cease to grow. Jesus said, “if you abide in Me, and My Word abides in you….”  His Word, however, cannot abide in us if  the soil of our heart is hardened, it takes constant nurturing, tilling and weeding, if we want our hearts to remain good fertile ground that will bear fruit for the glory of God. Not only will this help us to bear much fruit, but we will also flourish like a Palm tree planted by God (Ps. 92:12-13; Ps. 1:3; and Jer. 17:8).
